Toronto— Toronto FC President Bill Manning, General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko and coach Greg Vanney held a press-conference this afternoon to announce that the club has signed midfielder Jonathan Osorio to a multi-year deal.

Manning mentioned that the deal had been in the works for about a month and will make Osorio a TAM player next season, which means that he will earn above the salary cap. Manning also noted that the new deal will make Osorio one of the highest paid Canadian soccer players in the world.

Osorio was happy to re-sign with his hometown club and expressed his desire to help win more championships and make Toronto FC a club that is recognized worldwide. Although he dreamt about playing abroad, he felt that staying with in MLS was a great challenge and that he could have an impact on kids playing soccer in Canada and North America.

Coach Greg Vanney praised Osorio saying that:

“He plays to win every single day, no matter what it is. He puts his heart and soul into every single play in training, and you have no choice but to get better when you have that kind of approach as a player.”

Osorio has been with the team since 2013 and since then, he’s continued to improve as a player and has become one of the team’s core players. He is currently having the best season of his career, scoring 16-goals in all competitions.

During his tenure with Toronto FC, Osorio has won many trophies and individual awards including: 2017 MLS Cup, 2017 Supporters’ Shield,  Canadian Championships (2016, 2017, 2018), CONCACAF Champions League Golden Boot winner, and CONCACAF Champions League Best XI (2018).
