The Leafs are on fire. Sitting in first place overall in the league standings. Dominating the points race with Auston Matthews in first place with 16 points, Morgan Rielly in second with 13 points and Mitch Marner tied with John Tavares for third with 11 points.

The good times kept rolling tonight against the Kings. With Matthews making history and Garret Sparks standing on this head. Beating the Kings 4-1.

Kasperi Kapanen continues to shine, scoring two goals, the first one was a beauty shot from behind the net. He has been playing with such passion and artistry that he is a treat to watch. He clearly enjoys himself on the ice and it pays off. Having fun is vital in eliminating any pressure a player may feel. It takes the edge off, gets the player out of his head and into the moment. Kapanen clearly understands this and it shows.

Patrick Marleau sinks his first goal of the season an a power-play and Marner earns his fourth. Marner also earning two slashing penalties, with which I can do without. He needs to be more careful in that regard.

Matthew makes history by becoming the fifth player, in NHL history, to have multiple point nights in the first 7 games of the season. Joining the ranks of Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky. With two assists against the Kings. He has been unreal. Playing with such focus and determination. He has been playing at an elite status and reaping the rewards. Is there any stopping him?

Garret Sparks was simply magical between the pipes, stopping all but one of thirty four shots made by the Kings. He was confident and on his A game. Making a sensational save, robbing LA’s Jaret Anderson-Dolan of a sure goal, sending his head spinning. Sparks very well had his career best performance tonight. Showing that he has what it takes to backup Frederik Andersen this season.

It was a great game overall, however we need to limit turnovers and shoot the puck more. Other than that, the Leafs played a solid game. Proving that this season will be quite the ride for Leaf fans. Which is well overdue.

Keep it up boys!

Next up we host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday October 18th at 7pm.

Go Leafs Go!!
