OTTAWA – One last game for Toronto Argonauts Quarterback James Franklin to prove himself. For this season, anyway.

Friday night’s matchup against the Ottawa Redblacks will give Franklin one more opportunity to show the organization why he should be the number-1 QB for 2019.

He’s done a pretty good job since stepping in for McLeod Bethel-Thompson in the 4thquarter of Toronto’s Week 17 matchup against the BC Lions.

The Oklahoma City native has thrown for 877 yards and 5 touchdowns in just 13 quarters of action. Franklin also gets one last attempt to break the single season rushing touchdown record of 14.

The 27-year-old told Argonauts.ca that, over the course of this tough season, he’s learned a lot about himself as a player and a person.

“When I got the opportunity, it was ‘I gotta listen to people who have been there before, I’ve gotta listen to these veterans and coaches’, but it didn’t work for me,” explained the Missouri product.

“I’m not a unicorn, but I know I am different in how I do and approach things and I was trying to do things that others told me.”

Franklin will try to get Toronto’s first road win of the season, and prevent the team from going 0-9 while away from BMO Field.

Receiver Llevi Noel will also try to improve his rank among Canadian receivers with Franklin’s help. Noel sits in 7thon the national receivers list with 433 yards, a significant increase to his totals last season.

The Redblacks meanwhile will be without most of their starters. With the Eastern Conference Bye week locked up, Ottawa is sending out most of it’s practice squad and 2ndstringers to face the Argos.

Toronto should be able to take full advantage of an inexperienced Redblacks squad and put up a few more points than they did last week against Montreal.

Otherwise, the Argonauts aim to end what has been a miserable 2018 season on a positive note with a win against the top team in the East.

Let me know what you think!!
