*Auston Matthews will be back in the lineup tonight*
Me: He’ll probably be on the second line and won’t get too much ice time as they try to ease him back into things”
Auston Matthews: 2G, 1A, TOI:14:56
So here we are…
The Toronto Maple Leafs got Mr Matthews back on Wednesday after missing 14 games due to injury, and the dude picked up right where he left off: being good at the hackee.
Matthews had two goals and an assist as the Leafs took down the Sharks 5-3 in Toronto on Wednesday.
Also scoring for the Leafs were John Tavares and former Shark Patrick Marleau, while Mitch Marner had three assists and Andreas Johnsson had two helpers on the night.
With a nifty pass to Tavares, Matthews earned his first point of the night in the form of an assist, when Tavares scored on the power play at 3:36, and less than eight minutes later it was Matthews turn to score. The Leafs power-play unit worked magic around the Sharks net, when Morgan Rielly found Matthews alone in the right faceoff circle. Matthews then wired a shot in and off the post past goalie Aaron Dell for the 2-1 lead.
Mathews then got his second goal of the night after deflecting a shot by Andreas Johnsson, which was originally accredited to Johnsoon, but after review, showed Matthew’s stick altering the puck into the net.
For the Sharks, Thomas Hertl, Joe Pavelski and Melker Karlsson all had goals, while Logan Coture had two assists. Dell made 24 saves in the loss.
The Leafs improved to 18-8-0, while goalie Frederik Andersen made 37 saves and improved to 8-2-0 over his last 10 starts.
