I’d like to start this off by saying - CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Dwane Casey on becoming the 2018 All-Star coach for Team Lebron. He’s going to LA! This is a major accomplishment for not only Dwayne Casey and his team, but also for the Raptors Organization as he is the first Head Raptor in franchise history to coach an All-Star team.
Lowry says the trash talking starts now between him and Coach Casey as they will fight it out on different All-Star teams.
Ok! Back to stats!
It looked like Delon Wright had something to prove during last night’s game. He started out strong showing the Lakers he came to play - getting fancy with a spin move in the paint putting Alex Caruso on ice with a minute left to play in the 1st. He didn’t stop there, adding a put back jam to Poetel’s missed shot had the boys on the bench out of their seats. Wright ended the game with 10pts.
Further into the game, Julius Randle elbowed Jonas Valanciunas on his way up for a bucket. JV took it personal and decided to give him a shove at the other end of the court resulting in a scuffle and a double technical. This turned out to be a physical basketball game as Kyle Kuzma postered former teammate Jacob Poetel, but had them both smiling. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen a game this season where the players have smiled so much!
Raptors up by 10 at the half 59-49.
As he heads back to the court from the locker room, Casey mentioned during a quick interview that “the start of this game was good, but they have to finish by keeping Randell out of the paint and a better collective effort rebounding”.
DeRozan came alive in the third with 19pts.
Lakers, who are the worst three point team in the league end up draining three three-pointers in a row. Brook Lopez sunk two of them from deep - making it a five point game. As the Lakers inched closer to tying up the game, OG Anunoby & Brandon Ingram chase after a loose ball causing OG to pick up what shouldn’t have been a foul. Are we really being penalized for a good hustle?! He dove for the ball! I’d like to read the 2018 refs handbook regarding that one.
The Raps up 91-77 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Poetel makes the first three pointer for the Raptors since the 2nd, making it 96-84 just a couple minutes into the last quarter. CJ miles secures free pizza for the fans as he sinks yet another three - making it 100-86.
The Raptors remain in control in the fourth, thanks to Fred Van Fleet who put up 18pts, 4ast, 2stls in just 15 minutes. He finished the game with a career high of 25pts.
Raptors improve their record 33-15.
A huge shoutout to our Canadian talent - Tyler Ennis of the Lakers as well as Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony-Towns of the Timberwolves who will be at the ACC Tuesday at 7:30pm. Hopefully the Raps can step up their game against the TImberwolves and win this one!
Raptors 123-111 Lakers
