And that was just the first quarter…
The Rock notched their fifth straight win over the defending NLL champions with a 16-13 win at Scotiabank arena on Friday night to keep their top spot in the NLL.
The Rush came out playing solid defense, but the Rock drew first blood 35 seconds into the game, when Dan Lintner scored from the side of the net to put the Rock up 1-0.
Rob Hellyer made it 2-0 at through the legs of Rush goalie Evan Kirk. It was his 16th of the year. Adam Jones and Kieran McArdle netted the assists.
Down 2-0, the Rush notched three goals in a span of a minute to take a 3-2 lead early in the first.
However the Rock got a chance to equalize on the PP, with Johnny Powerless going glove side on Kirk to tie it up at 3. This was his 6th of the year.
Adam Jones netted back-to-back goals for the Rock to make it 5-3.
The first quarter ended with a score of 6-5 for the Rock . Shots were 17-13 in favour of Toronto.
Toronto started off the second quarter just like they did the first: quick and aggressive – right off the faceoff as Brandon Slade crashed the net for his 3rd of the season to make it 7-5 Rock.
Then Latrell Harris lobed a hefty pass from centre field to the front of the net to Adam Jones to make it 8-5 Rock. This was Jones’s third of the night.
Saskatchewan managed to net just two goals in the entire quarter, the second coming with just over 2 left from Matthew Dinsdale for his ninth to make it 10-7.
The rock made it 11-7 with 37.6 seconds left in the half with a goal by pass from Lintner to Dan Craig who tipped it in the side of the net for his 6th of the year.
Toronto did a great job of coming out of the gate early in every quarter, and started off the third again right away with a goal by Challen Rogers to make it 12-7
The Rock went onto the power play but the Rush scored shorthanded to cut their deficit to 4 and make it 15-11.
Toronto was able to hold on towin this one 16-13. Shots were 52-46 shots in favor of the Rock.
