Toronto FC Introduce New General Manager Ali Curtis
Thursday, January 3, 2019
Toronto FC held a press conference to officially introduce their new General Manager Ali Curtis. Curtis was named GM following Tim Bezbatchenko’s decision to leave the club and take the President role with Columbus Crew.
Curtis previously served as the New York Red Bulls’ sporting director and achieved a great deal of success with the team; they won the 2015 Supporters’ Shield for having the best record in MLS and he played a role in developing academy players and ensuring that they were able to succeed once called-up to the first-team.
During the press conference, Curtis expressed a desire in the developing TFC II players like he did with NYRB II stating that
“It’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on at the youth level. You have to take an integrated approach with TFC II and our academy. I’ll do that very quickly.”
Curtis also mentioned that even though Toronto FC missed the playoffs last season, the team’s goal is still to win MLS Cup:
“We want to win, and we want to do it the right way. I will have to be a leader as well as a teammate.”
It’ll be interesting to see what other moves Toronto FC have planned as the team will be gearing up for another CONCACAF Champions League run next month, where they will play Panamanian side Club Atletico Independiente FC.
