A two-game losing streak and single bye-week should have been enough to see the Toronto Argonauts fall out of contention for top spot in the East Division, but it appeared that would not be the case. A victory in Week 13 against the visiting Edmonton Eskimos in would secure a jump over Ottawa for 1st place in the division.
Edmonton is in the midst of a standings battle of their own, and wasted no time following the opening kickoff to reward themselves with an early 7-0 lead.
It all started with a strong defensive stop on the game’s opening series, including a forced fumble against Ricky Ray in the pocket. Euclid Cummings caught Ray and stripped the ball loose for Almondo Sewell to recover.
The Eskimos took full advantage of their turnover and took only two plays to find the end-zone. Mike Reilly handed the ball off to Travon Van, who found daylight and ran upfield for a 12-yard touchdown.
Toronto would respond, but not with Ricky Ray under centre as he usually is in these situations.
